What Is Earthing?
In the most simple terms, earthing is when your bare feet or skin comes into direct contact with the earth. When our bare skin touches the earth, free electrons are taken up into the body. These electrons – often referred to as nature’s biggest antioxidants – help neutralise damaging excess free radicles that can lead to inflammation and disease in the body.
The earth is a conductor of free electrons as are all living things including us. As our bodies are mainly made of water and minerals, we are excellent conductors for free electrons from the earth, as long as there’s a direct contact through skin or another conductive channel for them to flow through.
The Earth’s energy upgrades one’s physiology by allowing the body to cope and repair thereby promoting wellbeing, vitality and better sleep. It also harmonises and stabilises the body’s basic biological rhythms, knocks down (and even knocks out) chronic inflammation and reduces and eliminates associated pain, making it the most natural and powerful anti-inflammatory and anti-ageing remedy around. I have to give your grounding sheet 10/10 because I am starting to sleep through the night, the first couple of nights that I slept on it I felt like I was in a cocoon, it actually started to clear up other issues that I have in other areas of my life because the negative ions that the sheet produces works on the energy field the next day and the next day as the effects are cumulative & I think it will definitely enhance the way I live not only my sleep!! What Is Earthing? – The history of Earthing
Throughout the ages, our forefathers sat and slept on the ground, they worked the land with bare hands and naturally spent a lot of time grounded. Our modern lifestyles mean we have become increasingly disconnected from nature. Our footwear is now made with rubber or plastic soles, we sleep in bed homes with beds raised well above the ground, paving and road surfaces are made from much less conductive materials all of which act as blockers between us and natural benefits of being in contact with the earth.
We are of course living in the age of ever increasing technology and find ourselves surrounded by mobile phones, computers, phone masts, WiFi and microwaves which all bombard us with excess free radicles which can cause damage to our tissue and cells. Lucky for us earth battles against these free radicles and helps to knock them back down, helping to protect us. By allowing ourselves the opportunity to harness earth’s superpowers we are allowing it to help us be healthier as we reconnect with nature and decrease the effects of modern-day living.
How to practice Earthing
There are so many ways you can feel the benefits of earthing. The most accessible way to everyone is to get outside, barefoot for at least half an hour every day, whether you’re on grass, sand or soil, it doesn’t matter, what’s important is feeling the connection between your bare skin and the earth.
